Helping Developers Navigate the Changing Planning System

CarbonPlan has developed considerable experience in delivering Sustainability and Energy Strategies, now required by many Local Authorities, which are economically robust, technically achievable and which meet the requirements of the Local, Regional and National policy. By ensuring that the strategies proposed actually work, and by showing this in detailed analysis, we can add additional value to a project, whether the site is to be sold on after planning approval or developed by the client team.

Sustainability and Energy Strategies

Sustainability Statements are required by most Local Planning Authorities for any major new development, be it residential or commercial. They draw together a number of cross-cutting issues including Energy Use and CO2 Emissions, Water Consumption, Flood Risk, Transport and Ecological Protection.

Service Delivery

Sustainability for Planning is a specialist Division within CarbonPlan. Our dedicated team of planning experts will help to develop and deliver all of the documents required within a Sustainability Statement. We have developed a streamlined process which enables clients and their representatives to easily assess the financial and technical impact of various CSH, BREEAM, CO2 reduction targets or other requirements which must be met on a proposed development.

Our Planning Team works closely with all other Divisions within CarbonPlan to ensure that every aspect of the strategy that is proposed is technically robust. Among the many projects we have successfully delivered are:

  • Several single house multi million pound refurbishments in London
  • A new 400 home mixed use development in the South East
  • A unique 16 house CSH Level 5 project in London
  • A 350 home residential development in Cheshire
  • A regeneration project of 400 homes in Oxfordshire which included the conversion of an existing Edwardian hospital
  • A regeneration project of 315 homes in Gloucestershire with associated commercial spaces
  • A 100 home residential apartment block in London

To enable the smooth delivery of these and other projects our team has created a database of all Local Authority Planning Targets across England and Wales and have fostered links with many of the Local Authorities. We continually review regional and local policies to remain up to date with policy developments.

CarbonPlan actively involves clients and their design teams in developing the final strategy so that all involved are aware of the requirements and targets at each stage of the process. The end result is a successful planning application for the developer, first time round, achieved in the most efficient way to add value to the project at this early stage.
