CarbonPlan’s spin off company Quarry Battery Company (QBC) received consent from the UK Planning Inspectorate on Wednesday 8th March 2017 for its 99.9MW Snowdonia Pumped Hydro project.
Abandoned slate quarries, Glyn Rhonwy and Chwarel Fawr, will be turned into reservoirs to generate electricity via a turbine creating a 99.9MW battery storage hydro facility.
CarbonPlan are extremely proud that this venture now has permissions. Construction could start as early as 2018 supporting hundreds of jobs and creating up to 30 full-time positions once the facility is operational.
Currently CarbonPlan are working with a number of developers and Local Authorities to optimise grid scale battery solutions for their assets and will being making further announcements soon.
