The Stockport heat network provides nine multi-storey blocks and over 600 homes with heating and hot water via a state-of-the-art energy efficient biomass heating system.
CarbonPlan delivered the site surveys, technical energy assessments and carbon reporting that are required to draw the funding under the scheme. Using our specialist knowledge we were able to maximise the carbon scoring and therefore the available funding for the project for Voewood House and Beaver House, situated in Stockport.
Both were constructed in 1964 with Beaver House containing 62 flats and Voewood House containing 68 flats. Both blocks were electrically heated via contained large volume storage heaters with manual charging and electric immersion hot water.
A new district heating system with 95% biomass provides lower cost heating and hot water, as well as saving over 19,000 lifetime tonnes of CO2.
The partnership between Stockport Homes and British Gas has had a substantial economic impact on the area, not only helping to reduce energy bills, but by also providing jobs to people in the community.
