- Client: Roundhouse, Camden
- Project: BREEAM consultancy & Solar Funding
- Best Office Building award 2016 at the New London Awards
- Best New Place to work 2016: The London Planning Awards
Constrained by the listed building issues, finance and the urgent need for additional space, the Roundhouse decided to locate their administration roles in a new office block adjacent to the listed building. An Urban Space Management (USM) designed building constructed from 71 up-cycled shipping containers became the solution.
Given the nature of the design, it is inherently sustainable, both in construction and operation this project delivers low cost, speedy construction of high quality that is highly sustainable.
CarbonPlan provided the BREEAM advice and arranged for innovative solar finance that enabled Planning and CO2 requirement to be met, saving a significant amount from the development budget whilst still allowing the building to benefit from the green renewable energy.
The scheme incorporates further sustainable elements including recycled sections from previous USM projects, including the Olympic Broadcast Studios for London 2012.
Roof-top solar panels will provide renewable energy for the building – we aim to generate 38% of the site’s energy demand in this way.
